Breaker of Chains

Caution: There are Game Of Thrones Spoilers below! If you caught last nights Game of Thrones episode, you watched in horror while Daenarys Targaryen burned King's Landing to ashes. While some saw it coming, some of us felt betrayed. We’ve been rooting for the Mother of Dragons for several seasons and I personally never saw this coming. I’m not saying what she did was right, but I can empathize with her. Something about feeling like your world has betrayed you, and all the decisions you’ve made up to this point have not gotten you to your goals can make you want to start over. That isn’t always a bad thing, although in last night’s show, it definitely cost a lot of innocent lives. I was chatting with a friend today who mentioned that I had a lot in common with the Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons. He said it was a good thing, you know, before she massacred the King’s Landing. I replied that I too have burned my whole world to the ground, a few times. Granted, I didn’t get the option of riding a dragon in the process. And no one died. There is that. I have given up everything I owned, quit my job and created a new life 5 times in 10 years. I always love when people asked me how I got to Tallahassee. I started in Miami, moved to upstate New York, then LA, then Amsterdam, back to Miami and then to Crawfordville. I will have this on a directional sign in my backyard one day. While some people find the idea of starting over completely terrifying, I think it’s liberating. There is something freeing about being unchained and having a blank slate to build the life you have imagined. In some cases,  for me, it didn’t go as planned, and my life ended up worse than it was before. The last move from Miami to Tallahassee was a good one and took a lot of trust, faith and obedience to God to build something I am proud of. I doubt that Dani will be proud of the bridges she’s burned, literally, but creating a new world sometimes requires banishing old traditions that will not serve you.
